School Mass Preparation

St. Regis school children attend Mass either Tuesday or Thursday each week. Tuesday Mass is attended by grades 1-5. Second grade begins attending Mass in October, and first grade begins attending with their fifth grade partners. On Thursdays our 6-8th graders attend Mass. Some of our eighth grade students arrive during the homily because they attend math class at Brother Rice or Marian High Schools.

Each month there is also an "All School Mass" (ASM). Some months the ASM falls on a regular Tuesday or Thursday, and there are a few occasions it falls on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, in which case some of the children attend Mass twice that week, or even three times. Even though our students attend Mass at school, this does not replace the Sunday obligation. In religion class the children are taught that we are obligated to attend Mass every Sunday.

Every homeroom class hosts several Masses during the school year. The homeroom teachers assign the altar servers, readers, gift bearers and adult trained Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. They also help prepare the students for their role during Mass. It is important that the student readers practice at home and are prepared to proclaim God’s word at Mass.
