Catholics in the Public Square

Catholics in the Public Square (CPS) is an organization of faithful lay Catholics formed in response to Pope John Paul II’s outreach to the laity and to the U.S. Catholic Bishops’ pastoral letter Living the Gospel of Life: A Challenge to American Catholics.

Conscious of the great need for a Catholic voice to be heard in the Public Square, CPS is dedicated to bringing Catholic teaching and values to bear on our culture.

The Bishops have stated in their letter On Faithful Citizenship: "In the Catholic tradition, responsible citizenship is a virtue; participation in the political process is a moral obligation. Every believer is called to faithful citizenship, to become an informed, active and responsible participant in the political process."
